    Durham Cathedral is a Norman building constructed between 1093 and 1133 in the Romanesque style. It was founded as a monastic cathedral built to house the shrine of St Cuthbert. The Cathedral has been in continuous use since its original construction 900 years ago. It remains a place of worship and pilgrimage, and is also an important visitor attraction. It holds over 1700 services a year, and costs £60,000 per week (that’s about £6 per minute!) to maintain. The Cathedral offers a variety of spaces that can be hired for various events including concerts, conferences, wedding ceremonies and wedding receptions and celebrations alike.     Welcome to St Chad's College Founded in 1904, St Chad's College is one of the oldest Colleges in the University of Durham. St Chad's is remarkably situated at the very heart of medieval Durham, thirty metres from the magnificent Cathedral, not far from Durham Castle, and just a stone's throw from Durham's marketplace and historic streets. Most of the College buildings, which line North Bailey, were formerly Georgian town houses, though the interiors have changed over the years.     Oldfields the Restaurant in Jesmond, Newcastle opened to the public on Friday 14th November 2003. It appears that the older part of this building was built as a telephone exchange for Jesmond in 1905. Formerly the Scout headquarters, the site has undergone extensive work to produce the impressive environment that we have today. Initially many local residents were understandably worried about our plans and were concerned that we were seeking permission for a bar similar to many others in the area. The images below shows how we envisaged the restaurant would look, and how it actually looked on opening: We believe that we've delivered what we promised! Similarly to Durham, the Jesmond restaurant is split between informal and slightly more formal dining. This provides a unique dining experience for residents of Jesmond, Gosforth and around.     Conferences Van Mildert College has 125 ensuite rooms and 370 standard rooms contained in a series of six self-contained residential buildings with a central building providing meeting, dining and recreational facilities (including a bar/lounge) and a separate day-conference centre which is ideal for exclusive training and away days. The college buildings are grouped around a lake in attractive grounds. Meeting and dining facilities are accessible to non-residential visitors all year round by arrangement with the Conference & Hospitality Services Manager.     Durham County Cricket Club (rebranded as Durham Cricket in February 2019) is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Durham. Founded in 1882, Durham held minor status for over a century and was a prominent member of the Minor Counties Championship, winning the competition seven times. In 1992, the club joined the County Championship and the team was elevated to senior status as an official first-class team. Day Conferences The purpose built conference centre at Collingwood is the ideal venue to hold your conferences, meetings and training courses. The Penthouse suite is available throughout the year and can cater for up to 180 delegates. Accommodation The accommodation offered by Collingwood is of a high quality with a three diamond English Tourism Council rating. It is value for money, with rooms available to suit all budgets. Sixteen of these en-suite rooms are twin occupancy and a further nine are adapted for wheelchair users. Another 300 comfortable single bedrooms are available, which are fully carpeted, centrally heated with their own wash basin. Showers and toilets are conveniently located on each floor along with kitchenettes with microwaves. For guests requiring easy access, ground floor rooms in both en-suite and standard rooms are available on request. All rooms have bed linen (duvets) and towels provided in all rooms, throughout your stay, with the rooms are serviced daily.
